About Skeptopia
Welcome to Skeptopia – a small outpost of reason in a civilisation that’s outsourced thinking to hashtags, HR departments, and a sociology undergrad called Rufus.
It’s a refuge for grown-ups who still believe in truth, logic, and the now-controversial act of thinking for yourself.
We’re not here to save the world – just to point at the madness and suggest, politely of course, that the loudest voices are often spouting bullshit, while the rest of us, tiptoeing uncertainly around the culture war bonfire, are left full of doubts in the face of their moral certainty.
The philosopher Bertrand Russell said it best:
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.
What We Do
Skeptopia is a mental self-defence project.
We write short essays, guides, and satire for people who feel politically homeless, culturally exhausted, and just a little bit allergic to groupthink.
You’ll find:
⬛️ First Principles – Where we draw the lines and explain why they matter.
🟦 How to Argue With… – Practical, satirical guides for pushing back against bad ideas — politely or otherwise.
🟫 Nonsense Decoders – Phrase by phrase, we dismantle the ideological jargon that’s eating public life.
🟩 Survival Notes – Reflections on how to stay sane, sceptical, and sharp in an age of curated outrage.
🟨 Status Games – Cultural observations on how belief systems became fashion accessories.
🟥 Post-truth files – Investigations into how lies spread, truth erodes, and why nonsense now outperforms nuance.
🟪 Thinking Errors – Explanations of the biases, fallacies, and mental shortcuts that sabotage clear thought — and how to spot them before they spot you.
What We Believe
That truth exists – even if it’s unfashionable.
That reason matters – even when feelings get hurt.
That liberty is fragile – and should be defended, not apologised for.
That people are complicated, ideologies are lazy, and certainty is usually a red flag.
That tribalism makes smart people stupid – and slogans make everyone worse.
What We’re Not
We’re not left. We’re not right. And we have a healthy contempt for the extremes of both. We’re also not centrist dads (arguably the worst of the lot), and we’re definitely not writing this while sipping craft beer and wearing a keffiyeh.
Here’s what else we don’t do:
We don’t care what team you’re on – if your ideas are bad, we’ll probably make fun of them. There are no sacred cows here. No performative outrage. Your offence is not a moral argument, but good-faith disagreement is very welcome. Feel free to take it up in the comments.
Also, we’re not entering a writing competition. This isn’t about literary flourish or trying to get shortlisted for the Booker Prize. It’s about making sense and thinking clearly. This is a human-led project, with all the insight, imperfection, and irreverence that implies.
If you’ve made it this far, you might be our kind of heretic.
Subscribe. You won’t regret it (probably).
